Editorial standards
The rules we work to when reading listings, using sources and fixing errors. These are standards we apply, not a record of research already completed.
How sources are used
- Seller listings
- Treated as the seller’s claim, not as fact. We label these [Seller Advertised] and translate unclear wording into plain terms.
- Standard specifications
- Published industry definitions — socket types, layout sizes, firmware names, plate materials. Labelled [Standard Specification].
- Unverified details
- When a spec cannot be traced to either a listing or a standard, it is marked as unverified rather than assumed, softened or quietly dropped.
Evidence boundary
We can describe what a listing states and how that compares with standard terms. We cannot conclude that a board sounds a certain way, lasts a certain time or outperforms another from documentation alone. Where a claim would need hands-on proof, we say so instead of implying we have it.
Cross-checking a listing
The same steps apply to every listing we examine:
- Separate the seller’s marketing words from measurable specs.
- Map each spec onto a standard term where one exists.
- Flag anything that conflicts — for example, a kit sold as gasket-mount but pictured with a screw-fastened tray.
- Keep layout and compatibility caveats in the body of the page, never in fine print.
What editorial work here does not include
No lab acoustics testing
No physical teardowns
No endurance audits
No star ratings or decibel scores
Corrections
When a page is wrong, it should be fixed where readers will see it. Our procedure:
- A correction is made in the body of the affected page, not appended only at the bottom.
- The correction notes what changed and why, without pretending the earlier error did not happen.
- If a listing changes a spec, the page is updated to match the new listing and the change is noted.
- Corrections are made for accuracy, not to protect a listing’s reputation or a commission.
